Putting heatsink on the mobo

Post by KuRe »

I just got my A7N8X mobo and the amd 2600+ processor.

the processor came with a stock heatsink and cooler. This heatsink is such a pain to get on, I have a feeling I'm gonna break my board before it gets on. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get it on??

I hope the SLK-800 is easier to put on than this stock fan :(

Just be very careful. Most hsf's are suppose to fit pretty snug.

I'm sure it comes with thermal tape...scrape it off, and clean the heatsink with alcohol....then use a quality thermal past. Artic Silver III comes to mind. Your hsf will be a tab bit easier to mount since there isn't the thickness of the tape to consider. (Asuming it hasn't been broke in.)

AMD stock hsf's only do a marginal job of cooling. Good enough as long as you don't overclock much.

U know whats funny, the thermal tape that came with it wasnt even covered to keep it clean, therefore when I looked at it there was all this stuff stuck to it... I dont plan on using this heatsink anyways.. hoping to use the slk-800 when it comes :)
