Some admin site problem

Post by 1668 »

I have a problem with Kazaa(spyware). some of the employee in my company are using kazaa to download the porn movie and MP3. I uninstall it. later they install back again. And they used up all the bandwidth. I'm using NT server and all client are using Win98. Any system admin here? can you please help me to solve this problem?

I'm not sure this question is belong to this forum or not. I'm so sorry for that. I just hope you guys can help.

I would try to help, but need more information.
Are you behind a firewall? (blocking ports)
Do you use any routers? (updating the router table)
If you use routers, what are they CISCO?
Others in here may also help, but that information above would be important for any of us to attempt a response.

Can you add the web address to Hosts in each computer? If that's possible it would be the least likely place to look to re-establish the link to the site. Enquiring minds and all that. :D

Can you secure the access to everything apart from what they need to function? Do they need the internet?
Where I work, the IT department has toughened up recently and dismissal has been used to curb the improper use of company property. A huge number of sites have been filtered out. If it's suspect, it's filtered.

Good point croc.
Here I have installed "WEBSENSE"....with that they can have 60 mins (in 10 min blocks) to go to ebay but porn and gambling sites are blocked (by default)...I can add other sites as I see fit.
I can also give specific "groups" total access..it is very flexible.
I also block all ports..then open up specific ports for work related access. That is a lot of administrative work, but , it helps users to follow the established policy.
That was my rationale for asking if he had a firewall. Also if he has different sub nets, he can use the routing table to control certain aspects of sending packets to various locations. That was my reason to ask about routers.
