I just installed Windows XP on an ASUS P5A motherboard with an AMD K6-3/400 processor, and when I go to shut down, it stays at the screen that says "It's now safe to turn off your computer". I enabled APM , but after doing that, the computer just re-starts when I try to shut down. I'm using BIOS ver.4.51 and did not have this problem with Windows 98SE before.
I know the ACPI support for the P5A was developed before Microsoft addopted it's standards for ACPI.
The problem, is Windows doubts the ACPI capabilities of that board, and then doesn't install ACPI. This problem can only properly remedied on installation:
When prompted to push F6 to install 3rd party SCSI drivers, push F5 instead. From there you will be able to pick a uniprocessor ACPI HAL.
Anyone experience this ?
