Do I need all these adapters

Post by nissandave »

Hi all,

I am a BSFA customer and love it. One question though. Do I need all these dial up adapters? Here's the details:

Windows ME
Celeron 850 mhz
Toshiba laptop
Alcatel Speed Touch Home Ethernet modem
Modem connected to cardbus adapter card - Belkin 32-bit
1.5mbps plan, no static ip
No network
No other internet software/connections
Internet Explorer 6.0

The adapters listed are:

Client for Microsoft Networks
BroadJump PPPoE Adapter Driver
Dial Up Adapter
Dial Up Adapter #2 (VPN Support)
Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)
Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
SMC IrCC (Infared Communications Controller)

BroadJump PPPoE Helper Protocol Driver ->Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)
BroadJump PPPoE Helper Protocol Driver ->Realtek RT8139(A)-based PCI Ethernet Adapter

IrDA Protocol -> SMC IrCC (Infared Communications Controller)
NDISWAN -> BroadJump PPPoE Adapter Driver
NDISWAN -> Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter

TCP/IP->Dial Up Adapter
TCP/IP->Dial Up Adapter #2 (VPN Support)
TCP/IP->Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)
TCP/IP->Realtek RT8139(A)-based PCI Ethernet Adapter

The SMC IrCC stuff is tied to some kind of infared port my laptop has that i never use, when i delete it, windows always reloads the drivers for it. How can i get this disabled? Would these extra adapters cause any freezes?

You can get rid of the VPN and NDISWAN related ones.

Have you previously had AOL installed?
