Help tweaking manually

Post by TurboTom »

It's been a long time since I made a post, anyways..I see in some forums there is a whole list of numbers, I know a few basics like MTU, Time To Live, but not much after that. Like what AznNH241
Posted here, this link https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... adid=84008 I don't really understand all that. Right now my PC stats are 1.9Ghz, 256 Sram, 40 gig hard drive, 64mb 7500 Radeon, an average of 2,000 kbps[web] using the tweaks here, 260 kb/s download transfer rate, WindowsXP Proffesional & I use Road Runner. My cable modem box has a max physical speed of 30 mbps. Can somebody please tell me what I can do to get faster speeds? Mannually tweaking & explanation of the link above...Any help would greatly be appreciated p.s. I used about 20 gigs on my 40 gig hard dirve

Welcome to Speedguide :D , i don't suggest manually setting the entires for multiple reasons. First since you are on XP download Cablenut and try the following settings:

DefaultReceiveWindow = 36500/49640/74460/99280/124100
DefaultSendWindow = 32120
InitialLargeBufferCount = 1000
InitialMediumBufferCount = 3000
InitialSmallBufferCount = 5000
LargeBufferSize = 409600
MaxFastTransmit = 36500/49640/74460/99280/124100
MediumBufferSize = 150400
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 6400
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 1024
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 36500/49640/74460/99280/124100
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0 (set to 1 if RWIN is 65535 or higher)
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1460
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1460
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 36500/49640/74460/99280/124100
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 40
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 20
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
DefaultTOSValue = 92 or 44

Also read the link in my signature "My Tips" and follow the other suggestions such as the tweak for faster page loads and setting your NIC duplex setting properly. :) ;)

No i just have a lot of games, music makers->Acid 2.0, Sound Forge 5.0 XP, Sound Forge 6.0, Cool Edit 200, Half Life,GTA 3 Kingpin, Max Payne, Vetgas Video 3.0, & the lists goes on. And as you know all of those applications require a ton of space, not to mention my KaZaA folder with DBZ episodes...........I wanted to thank you mnosteele52, that helped out by about 300 kbps, in web loads, as well as downloads [transfer rate 650 kbps] Thanx a lot dude, if I can ever repay the favor, just ask
