Oh my gosh, I just read te whole thing, words cannot describe the evilness there, that's horrible, people like that should be shot immediatly
I can't believe the county didn't do more to help, that just makes me so angry with them too, they could have investigated and stopped this maddness before it got worse
that whole thing sickens me, unfortunetly there are some wackos out there and that is reality

i could not read it all, but one thing is certain.
God will care for her now.
for those involved, they should be flogged to an inch of their lives in public and left hanging, and allowed to starve to death.
to those who failed to follow up, and protect the child, 10 years at hard labour.

No punishment in this world can undo what she has done, and whatever punishment I can think of seems to be too little. Eye for an eye would be incredibly cruel, but doesn't seem right either. What can you do with such people?!? I tend to agree with Larry though. I read the whole thing, and it just keeps getting worse. So many chances to save her, noone cared. It truly sickens me. I mean, HELLO! Just hearing the description you can imagine she must have been in a very awful state when she arrived at the hospital. The "mother" claimed she has scabbies, and no doctor bothered to treat it or even examine if it actually was the scabbies. Great world we live in.
I don't know about England, but in Germany and the Netherlands we do not have death penalty. I used to totally agree with this, that capital punishment is a no no. This case however seriously makes me reconsider. It really makes you wonder whether torture shouldn't be a legal punishment in such extreme cases.
Another nasty thing in this is that the woman responsible in this case again hides behind religion. She claimed that the child was possessed by Satan. She took the kid to churches to get the demon exorcised. And the people from the church did ... well you guessed right, nothing. How can those pastors ever face a congregation again, with it being public that they also though that the girl was possessed, and not tortured?
What can make a human go so fatally wrong in his judgement?

2nndly not to be a spoiler, but i dont know if this is true or not. i didnt read it all but i read some of it. i say this because i have seen other articles at that website and they have been a little ..... how should i say, flamboyant to the degree of being farce in an attempt to get readers. i do not know if this happened, its sad but things like that happen in this world, i remember oprah had a show several weeks ago about child abuse, the things that accured were deveistating to here.

It is sad to say but this is not a lone case of abuse our world is full it in every country but as a mother this is the fear that we carry for our children every time they leave the house, this is why as mother's we ask you to call when you are going to be late and want to know where you will be, we worry about something terrible happening to you, there are evil people in this world and you never know who they are.

Mooseboy....
The Guardian is a well respected left-wing periodical.
A problem as I understand it. In the UK, as the US, there government benefits to be had from being foster parents. Stipends of up to 1500 dollars (US) per month is not unheard. The family is then responsible for the welfare of the child. Sadly, whenever there is the oppotunity for profit, someone will take it, regardless of the suffering. There was a recent story of a foster family with 8 children living at subsistance level while NY state gave the "parents" over 10,000 dollars per month to take care of them.
Clearly, that is exactly what this woman desired. Since she was to received not money, she tortured the girl. Evil, pure and simple.
I have no answer for suitable punishment.
