Processor gets HOT
Processor gets HOT
Well, to get straight to it. I have the MSI k7t266 Pro 2 mobo and an AMD Athlon 1400. Now, when I hook everything up I got, it doesn't boot up. I used the feature that my mobo has (D-LED) and it said that my processor wasn't installed properly or damaged. So I looked at it, and my god it was hot. That and the HSF. I ran it again to see if something was wrong with my HSF, but it is for sure my processor. I THINK the problem is my PowerSupply. Which is a measly 230. Could that be the problem?
And how much do I need? Prices maybe?
Thanks,
Anthony

If the D-Bracket on the MSI board says your chip is damaged. then that it what the problem is. I have the same board and I didn't seat the HSF properly and fried a chip...you WILL need a bigger PSU (300 or more) and probably a new CPU chip.

Don't just assume that you did fry your chip. Try using a 300W power supply and it might work hope fully you didn't keep it in there like that with that 200 W power supply long you might get away with buying another chip. Good luck.Originally posted by ARS
Jake, So I burned my chip up? You guys think so? All it said in the manual was that either it is installed improperly or damaged. Hmm.. that's going to suck getting a new one. Errr.
Thanks for the site though baldeburn.
The MSI motherboards have a four led light system that tells you the status of your computer. With the lights he had on, it means that the chip is installed wrong or damaged. It is kind of hard not to install the chio wrong, so it must be fried.....
Did you take the chip off and check for bent pins???

It does sound like the chip is fried, but no problems with the power supply. When you get a new chip you may find that you will have performance issues with the smaller power supply. You still may want to get a larger power supply. You could have ESD the chip or again plugged it in wrong. It happens to must people.
Some good power supply info for you...
