slow performance w network enabled

Post by tchap »

On my XPP laptop connnected wireless to SMC 7004AWBR/cble modm w/ 98SE host (Dell300PII), if I load MS Word for example, it takes a full 2 minutes; if I disable the LAN conxn, it loads in 2 secs as it should.

?For some reason it searches the network while loading, related to prev posted problem of very slow browse of hard drive on host. Any ideas why?

Thanks in advance

I had the exact same thing happen to me not too long ago. When I tried to open documents, pictures, settins, etc. I ran system restore and it did not help at all. The only thing I had done different in the past week was install Netscape.
I don't know why but uninstalling Netscape instantly solved my problem.

Are you running Netscape by any chance??

have you tried putting a sniffer on that interface to see if its trying to find something over your network? (dont know why it would...) Im not familiar with what the problem is, but Im interested in what it could be doing.

Take a look at http://www.ethereal.com .
