Maybe someone can help?

Post by Peripatetic »

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but...

Recently I haven't been able to connect to any internet programs (for lack of a better word). WinMX will not connect to any of the servers, nor will any of the OpenNap servers. I cannot connect to any mIRC server or FTP server. It's been this way for the past week, and I can't identify a problem. AIM will connect and so will Audiogalaxy. But the internet games (that come with XP) like Spades aren't able to find the server. My firewall (Sygate) isn't the problem, because when I've had these problems it hasn't been on (everytime I start it up I get an error, and it shuts down).

So, does anyone have an idea? Or do I just need to wipe my harddrive out and start over? :(

BTW, my comp specs are Athlon XP 1500+, Win. XP Home, 256 DDR RAM...

Can you browse using Explorer or Netscape, or get email?

I'm having the same problem, but I can't access the internet at all. Everytime I try to open Explorer, I get an error message and it closes the program. Same thing with Outlook. Same thing with WinMX.

I did a Ping test and it ran fine.

This just started on Sunday, so now I can only access the Internet at work.

Any thoughts?

*Edit* I'm running ZoneAlarm

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I can access my email (I use Outlook) and the internet (IE). I had a problem a few weeks ago where I couldn't at all for a day or so, but I guess that was just a simple ISP problem.

Also to add to my original post, I'm on RR cable modem, if that's of any consequence.

Actually, I am on RoadRunner, too. I'm assuming my cable modem works fine since I was able to do a ping test. I could also release and renew my IP address.

Heh, I wish I could figure this one out. I'm half tempted to reinstall Windows or just buy a new computer.... :D
