Can't connect to certain FTP sites

Ever since I exchanged my LinkSys for a Netgear, I've had no problems until now. I've tried various FTP clients, yet it's the same issue with all of them. When entering passive mode, it will not go any further. I can't connect to the site. Running WinXP Prof, Netgear rp114 router, cable service. Thanks in advance!

What FTP program are you using?

Try using port 21 instead of passive.

I've used BulletProof, WSFtp and XP FTP. All have failed to work. Even if I disable passive, it will not connect. It fails to connect at another point - which I did not document. I've tried various ports, from 21, 6969, and others as those are the ports advertised. I had enabled DMZ for the ip assigned to my comp by the router, yet it does no good. I had manually freed up the ports, still no good.
