DSL interfering with dialup?? don't think so but help

Post by delusional247 »

Ok now I argue and argue with my mom all the time, she seriously thinks she is a computer wizard but she isn't. I talked to quite a few people and they all told me the same.

My mom decided to rewire the phone lines in the house since a contracter cut my line from the outside by mistake...anyway, since then she can only log on her dial up at around 9000.
Now I have DSL, she is saying that the DSL is causing her to log on her dial up at such slow speeds.

Now I always thought that DSL and dialup don't interfere with each other because they are on 2 different levels.

Can some one help end my fued I got going on? ( It won't end though even if I am right but still )

Well was there a problem before the lines were cut and rewired? If not there's your answer. The number one reason people don't get good connect speeds from dial up is bad phone lines. :)

Once in a while we would get bad sign on speeds with the dialup up because we were using earthlink and there are only 2 numbers in my area ( philadelphia ) but after SHE REWIRED the lines, its been messing up and that is the same time I got my dsl.

I could show her a text book showing that its not the DSL and she will still bitch and bitch that its my fault. I just got in arguement now and its 1am. She said she is cutting my phone line if I don't get my own or get rid of DSL. After a few harsh words & the move the hell out yadda yadda its just going to continue to be the same thing.

I mean I told her after the line was cut by the contractors to have them pay the bill for the phone company to rewire the lines...but no..she won;'t because I suggested it. She thought she could do it herself lol.

She is waiting to get a new computer.
Plus I don't think she would do that anyway because she bitches if I leave my monitor on over night because it "raises the electric bill"...so i don't see how she would want me to leave my computer on all the time so she could go on and she isn't going to want to come up and turn this thing on, plus as nosy as she is, i don't want her near my computer. lol

Use a router to share DSL and your computer won't have to be on for the other computer to access the Net.

Run a Cat5 or good quailty phone line from NID on the side of your home to DSL modem and bypass in-home wiring.

I've also heard that Dial-up can be slowed when DSL is on the same line, but the wiring in your home has nothing to do with it. It happens at the phone Co. when your line gets changed over for DSL use.

I don't understand how it gets slowed considering the DSL and dial up are through 2 different parts of your phone line
