realtek nic problem

Post by sentra8777 »

I have a realteck nic and on this program called sandra its saying that my realteck nic pci latency is to high and could hog the bus for to long. Will this effect my internet connetion like slow it down. i would highly appreciate any suggestions. :)

i have seen this before on a machine i used to have with the same software. i never experienced any problems after tweaking it, but also never saw any change in performance on my machine and eventually left it in the default setup like you have it now :) that said...

your nic shares the PCI bus with all other PCI components. they compete for bandwidth over this shared bus. only one component can do I/O on the bus at a time. sandra is reporting that your nic has a large pci latency, essentially meaning that it grabs control of the bus for longer than sandra suggests it should. if you have many applications that are doing I/O over the pci bus it can be beneficial for each application to take smaller chunks of time on the bus, however if you dont have many applications competing it can be beneficial for one or two components to take a little longer to wait for I/O. In your situation unless you have some other heavy I/O components (RAID controller, pci graphics card [AGP is a different bus, and wont affect the PCI bus], video capture card...) on the pci bus, you will most likely never know the difference.

honestly i wouldnt lose sleep over it :)
me fail english?....that's unpossible!
