Who makes a decent PCI video card?

Post by RoundEye »

I'm looking for a PCI video card with 16 megs of ram or more. I guess in the one to two hundred dollar range. A client of mine gave me a HP machine. I had enough stuff laying around to upgrade it a bit. I upped it to 256 megs of ram, 466 Celeron, Sonic Vortex 2 sound, Linksys v5 NIC and an ATA-66 15Gig Quantum drive. It has an Intel 810 chipset.

Check this out, HP uses a mobo that is ATA-66 compatible and a six Gig hard drive that is ATA-66, but uses a 40 wire cable! What a group of morons. Why go through all the trouble of building a PC a not use an 80 wire cable? I just don't understand the reasoning behind that.

From HP's site, I have the 4535.
NOTE: Cable is not shipped with HP Pavilions and must be purchased separately.

right now I think you can get a PCI Radeon 32mb card or a 64mb Geforce 2 mx-400. Either card will be a great addition for the thing :D

Thats funny. I once bought a pc from compusa(compusa brand). Same deal, 810 chipset ATA-66 compatable. They even had a samsung ATA-66 HDD in the thing. I open it up to put in a nic and I see a 40pin cable. I was like wtf. Sometimes the only explanation is they fvcked it up!

did you read their explaination as to why there is a 40 pin cable in there? Apparently there are some "special" ata 66 cables that are 40! HAHAH fricken jokes!!! Even is such a thing existed, I'm sure the performance from the thing wouldn't be very far from ata/33 IDE cable!

Any links for a company that sells a PCI video card? I looked at NewEgg, and unless I overlooked it, thay don't have any PCI video cards.

i'd looke at http://www.ubid.com most companies dont carry PCI vid cards, and if they do, it's very limited quantities, and very cheap cards.

http://www.spartantech.com is decent too, i've bought from them before, a PowerColor PCI TNT2 vid card.

I recommend the Geforce 2 mx 400 pci 64meg, It's a great card and for only 100$(probably less if you buy it online) you can't lose.
