System.ini Network Card Tweak

Hi again Speed Guide friends. I just Tweaked my System.ini file like it has shown here. http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_irq.shtml
The number I put in was 4096. My queston is what can I change it to so the nic card will get more ram and preforme better? I could change it to lets say 4097 but I am un-educated about what I am doing. And I don't think the one digit change will do any good. But I can follow instructions though. I am using Win98 with 384MB of ram.

I have mine set to 7168. This means 7MB of RAM is allocated to your NIC.

Reboot for the changes to take affect.

i thought that adding ram to your nic was only a myth. does it really work? or is it just for xp?

Depends who you ask... A lot of sites would tell you it is a myth, however it does reserve RAM. Whether reserving that RAM helps is another question, usually the performance increase is small and hardly detectable.

According to many EXPERTS Ive heard from, it is impossible to reserve ram for an IRQ.

I have changed mine to 7168 and I really don't see any difference at all. What would be the number to put in to give it 50MB?

Well not serious. Can I do that much with the ram I have? 384 MB Or what it the max I should go? And would I take out the [ ] When I put it in the ini file?

Put whatever number you like, its not like it does anything. Hey, key in 500000000. Bet your resources wont fall a tad.

As a matter of fact, the resources do change, despite what all experts say, that's why we keep it around. Also, many people have emailed us with positive feedback about it.

I realize it's somewhat awkward to reserve RAM to an IRQ, and it's not documented anywhere, but the above two facts are enough for me.
