When was the last time you felt really ALIVE???

Post by JawZ »

I just returned from an afternoon spent in the woods (hunting) and while I was walking out to my vehicle I stopped and noticed that the moon was peaking through the clouds...it really caught me off guard but it was so beautiful. I put everything down and stood there gazing at the moon through the tress. It was really a spiritual moment.

As I stood there, I thought good thoughts. I also realized how often I just take things for granted.

Next time your out and about...stop and smell the roses.

What a great day I've had! :D

I think the times that I really feel alive is when I'm either riding a roller coaster, or flying...I've been contemplating going on a glider ride...I think that would be a blast!

The last time I felt really alive was when I was in NYC visiting friends last week. It was good to be around friends pretty much constantly, catch up, laugh, and just have a good time.
It's better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

uod2001,

I've had those similar moments you described, full moon and wilderness.......spiritual yes!

Lately though I have had my eyes wide open, I seem to watch everything that goes on around me. It was like I woke up one day and everything was different now, like a dream kinda!
I don't even sleep as much now fearing I might miss something, what that something is who knows.

This expirience came long before September 11th so don't worry, I'm not losing it! It actually became apparent to me about a year ago when I was on a solo fishing trip up north. I woke up one morning and all of the surroundings were quiet, not like the mornings before with birds chirping and fish jumping. I walked around to see if anything was wrong and found myself on a small foot trail next to my camp. I walked about 500 feet when all of a sudden I heard a noise in the brush, it was a calf elk(standing up and starring me down). I looked around for a spell and did not see any cow or bull so I slowly started back to camp.

After reaching my camp I noticed that all of the normal wilderness sounds were silent still, really weird. I started over to my tent, which was back in the direction of the trail and low and behold there was that calf. I froze, slowly moving my head around to see the cow. After a minute(seem like an hour)I decide to offer the elk some food, why I have no idea....he looked at me like my dog does when begging.
I had some beef gerky with a cheese stick in my pocket(hunter's meal), I pulled out the cheese and hand fed the little guy. Watching him eat out of my hand like I was his mother just opened my heart and soul.

While I was giving the calf my last cheese stick a loud roar came from the woods, like a high pitch horn! It was his mama calling him back! The little calf turned and looked into the woods towards the calling of his mother, he then turned back at me and looked me directly in the eyes....just for a second as to say goodbye! He ran back down the trail into the woods like a little kid.

After I stood up I walked over to my truck, as I approached the truck I noticed that the birds were chirping again, the wind was blowing slightly and the fish were jumping in the lake. This is when it all started, my life had changed from that moment on, like a new birth!

I went back to that place where this happened this year, hoping to see my little friend again. He has since grown to be a larger elk bull and I wouldn't recognize again anyway, I would just like to thank him for opening my eyes to reality and life.

Thanks for allowing me to share my spiritual moment.

Last night I fell down a few steps and broke a toe. Cursed up a blue streak.... I felt quite alive.... :)

I had a 15 y/o patient who was getting his orthodontics removed. His anterior teeth were misshapen and his gums over grown. He was a 6'5" Sid Vicious look alike. He was also depressed. Still we hit it off fairly well. His mother agreed to gingivectomies to trim and reshape his gums and bondings to create an aesthetic smile. The case was a bit complicated, but on the final day he looked at his mouth.... He smiled.... and he did not stop smiling. He was happy. It is a special feeling to know that something you did, made a difference in someone's life.

Mine isn't that special but it still makes me feel pretty good.
I play Hockey on Sundays and I love it. I used to play almost every day when I was younger but stopped about 9 year ago due to work and school. So a few weeks ago I joined a league and I love every minute of it. Eventhough i'm out of shape and am dying by the end, it still feels great just to be out there. Not to mention scoring some goals again.

But I know what you are saying uod2001, There's many times i'll walk outside going to my car and just stop on the lawn listening, but it's just silent pure silence. It's usually very clear and you can see just about every star in the sky. I just stand there taking it all in. Thinking about all the events that are affecting me and realizing that I have it pretty damn good sometimes.

Thanks for reminding me. :)

The greatest thoughts are gathered when in the wild. There is so much to be thankful for, but with the hussle and chaos of daily living it's hard to see that.

When I'm with my family is when I realize how lucky I am to be alive.

Awesome post!!!!!!!! :)
