Only my cd-rw drive will read cd-rws now

Post by DVD Rewinder »

For some reason this happens... and i have no idea why. when i first got my computer it was fine. any of my 3 cd drives (i added a third) could read a cd-rw. I formatted a couple of times, and i used cd-rws as backup. I did upgrade my firmware one time.. forgot when.

couple of questions.

How come now only my cd-rw drive will read cd-rws?

Everytime i format, do i need to upgrade my firmware? I know its installing the same thing into the drive, but it leaves certian things behind on my computer.. im thinking maybe these are needed?

HELP!

Dust could of gotten in your burner, so the burns are "weaker", or the laser in the burner could be dying, since it is an old burner anyways.

If the cd's are open session, those kinds can be real picky. Besides that I have no idea.

TigerUpperCut has probably hit on the problem.

Question, do you have any older cdrw's you've done that you could test?

One other thing is power. Since you keep adding things, do you have enough juice? Lasers like a good power supply.

Yes i have tested one of the very first cd-rws that i made.. and it will only work on the cd-rw drive. same with new ones.

but your power comment may have a roll in this... i was reading my power supply and it said only 200 watts????

I have an HP 8576C. I cant find their specifications list anywhere... HELP

DVD-r

(PS, i tried rewinding it too.. didnt work :rotfl: )

Oh yeah, you ask about upgrading your firmware.

Yes, get it upgraded. Now about the power supply, It may be a bit on the low side but if you were using an old cdrw and it dosn't read in anything but your burner........and it used too.....dunno for now..upgrade your firmware and let us know how that works.

it sounds like you are not closing the session on the cd's

if your are worried about your 200watt psu not handling your power load then check out this link. it will help you out.

I had the same problem. If you want to fix it install the Roxio(adaptec) UDF Reader. It allows you to read CDRW 's created with EZ CD creator in any CD drive.
