Hey.. You get what you pay for. Nowadays higher upstream speeds means more bucks.

Hi there I have New York City Road Runner Cable it cost's me $39 a month, their service says 2mb down and 300k upload, their service is great so far, downloads 250-350kbps, my ping on gaming servers is 20-50 on most good servers sometimes 10, I have no complaints but have read alot of nightmare stories about @Home, yes I also had DSL through COVAD I had it for a year cause there was no Cable at the time in my area, it took them 3 1/2 months to finally install it after I placed the order with the ISP Internet connect, with DSL there is just to many midlemen you have to go through before you get youre service, eventually it will only be the big boys like the phone companies who already provide crapy DSL service, my brother also had DSL through Northpiont, you know what happened to them(called the Verizon desaster), I was paying for 768/768sdsl, it was great for gaming steady pings and always low 20-100 on most servers, downloads at 65kbps on average, but I was also paying $79 a month and on my last month before cancelation they send me a bill of $85 with no warning saying those were additonal fees charged by the goverment, computers for schools, etc, that damn govt, I am more than happy with my cable, cya and good luck with youre search for better service.

Go look in your phone book under "Internet" or "Internet Service Providers" and call local dsl providers to see how much their dsl services cost. Go to GetSpeed and TheList to see if there's any dsl providers in your area. I'm sure you will find 1500k/384 or 768k access in your area for $40-$50 per month.
If I was capped at 128 upload, I'd switch to dsl, too
Unfortunately, cable in my area is capped at 768 kbps to beat DSL's caps of 128 or 384 kbps. I hope you find a good dsl service soon, because frankly, 128 kbps sucks for a upload and is much like idsn.

Who did you talk to at Earthlink If you go for the Mindspring account from earthlink you should get greater than 256 up I get 350 to almost 400 consistant upstream... There own add shows 256 upstream on the earthlink site.. It will also depend on the distance from the CO if your over 12000 feet it starts to fall off a touch.. But I also have someones office on the same connection that is over 15000 feet and gets 1800 down with no problem at all...
Call them and get the exact info from them on this line
888-847-4708 make sure to tell them you want it to be mindspring.. They might be a partner but they arn't fully yet
I can also say if you were in NY you might get slower speeds but never heard of that in your area.
Also call the Local company's it was mentioned above. There are some good ones out there with good upload speeds..
Also what is your cap is it below 1.5Mb if it aint I would think twice. Altho that cable upload is just hard for me to justify on my end and I might be going dual connection in a month. Cable and DSL

Yes but if you go through Covad it will be 1.5/384. You could also look into http://www.speakeasy.net They have great reviews on DSLR.Originally posted by HalfLifer
