Aero Admin Problems

Post by Qui-Gon John »

I use Aero Admin to help people remotely. I was helping someone earlier today and it was acting weird. They have Win 11 Home. I was able to open Malwarebytes and do everything. Then when I opened CCleaner, once I had it open, I could not actually click anything. Had to have the other person run those scans then close CCleaner. Then doing other things, that I normally can do, like open and run Windows Update Blocker, once I had it open, I could not do anything. And just before it opened, instead of seeing the User Account Control box (to click OK), I got a black screen. I had to walk the guy I was helping thru those steps, as well. Then we connected and I looked at his laptop, which has Windows 10 Home and I had full functionality. So I'm not sure where the problem lies. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't used Aero Admin. Could be something with the protocols it uses, and/or a "Virtual Monitor Driver". If it happens to a PC you can play with, I would compare with another tool like UVNC.

I used to always use Teamviewer until it got quirky and too too much bs. Recently started using https://rustdesk.com/, free & opensource too.

Do you use self-hosting with Rust Desk? Do you run your server on a Windows machine?

I often use Ultra VNC, problem being you have to set port forwarding in the client modem/router, and also allow it in the Windows Firewall.

I used Team Viewer many years ago. Until they made it nearly impossible to use for free. Aero Admin has been pretty good for me. Except if I get too many needs to connect remote, within too short of a time period, it starts giving me "bug" messages to pay.
If too many problems persist with Aero Admin, I will try Rust Desk. Thanks. Does it have to use the Self-Hosting. With Aero Admin, the remote person opens Aero Admin (not installed) and gives me the Number. I open my Aero Admin (also not installed), enter the number they give me, a couple "accept prompts" by the other end, and I am in.

I also used Teamviewer a few years back, until they made it very expensive, and marked every residential user as "business"... It basically broke most clients, many people moved away from it.

Rustdesk does not require self-hosting, though it would be most efficient that way. They have a stand alone exe (no install) and an msi (installed). The stand alone lacks certain admin functions due to Windows security defaults.
