I used the free version for a lot of years but stopped using it about 5-8 years ago. I think paying $49 a year isn't a lot of bang for the buck. Personally I didn't think the free version was really necessary.

I have to use something, at least to remove the trackers.
One time I had something like 24,000 trackers and my PC almost became unresponsive.
I have a Dell PC with a 240 GB SSD, and Win 10.
They say you don't need to defrag with an SSD so I no longer defrag.
I would use the free version, and will turn off anything that unnecessarily runs in the background, including CC Pro I imagine. Just run the free version on demand.
Disclaimer: Please use caution when opening messages, my grasp on reality may have shaken loose during transmission (going on rusty memory circuits), even though my tin foil hat is regularly audited for potential supply chain tampering. I also eat whatever crayons are put in front of me.
