Hi Guys,
I want to setup a small network as follows.
1. Small office with 10 computers + a file server - need to setup a wireless network through ADSL router
2. Need to add another 2 computers which locate few KM away from this place in 2 locations, using internet to access the shared files on the server.
3. They have this server with Windows Small Business server 2008 with 15 cals............
Can some one enlighten me with a plan and how should I do this.... this is a charity work some elderly friends of mine asking.
Really a great help if someone can help me out. If any further details need i'm willing to give.
Cheers,
Ninetth

Since you're in the wiring section, I'm assuming you want to use wireless for a "point to point" wireless bridge?
I'd use some Ubiquiti gear.

Here are two resources that sell Ubiquiti products, as well as other brands.

Depending on what kind of "data" you want to make available to the satellite office, if it's just file shares....that's easy enough. If it's applications that are particularly bandwidth sensitive, I'd recommend implementing a second server with remote desktop services added as a role (what used to be called Terminal Server). Or could take the "published apps" role on top of that.
Or if you want to scrap the wireless point to point, and both locations already have high speed internet connections...I'd upgrade them to static IP business accounts, upgrade the main office to the highest speed package available, and setup a point to point VPN tunnel between the sites using dedicated routers that support router to router tunnels.
What shared applications would there be?
Are they using the Exchange component of SBS for e-mail?
Do they use Sharepoint a lot? (also a part of SBS)
Are they non profit?
What is doing the backup for them?

Hi YeOldeStonecat,
Thanks for the respond on my query. More info at this case its like this.
This is a Non Profit Age Care facility.
Main office got 12 PC/Laptops and they are running on ADSL 2+ Internet there. Also they have 2 machine located 4KM from this location and those location have separate ADSL 2+ lines. Recently they got a Entry level server with Sever with Microsoft small business server 2008 with 15 CALS from a donor. Now they want to use this as a file server among 3 location (Main office and sub location * 2).
So they ask my help to setup this server and since I have very little on networking knowledge I want to have a idea before start it. What they want is to have a wifi network using the ADSL router and connect the server with cable. Then their sub location need to be able to access the file shares in the server here. So please update me.
Cheers,
Ninetth

Well I would not use the wireless of the DSL gateway.....for 12x clients. With 12x wireless clients across an office I'd want to have at least 2x spread out APs that do seamless roaming and sharing of the load. Unless your clients don't mind painfully slow access to files.
Small Business Server also has Exchange Server for e-mail, so you'll want a mail filtering service to "clean" the mail of viruses 'n spam before it delivers the e-mail to the Exchange box. Backup for the server. Managed antivirus for the server and all workstations.
Satellite offices can access the servers Exchange for e-mail, as well as the folder shares of the server, through a secure VPN tunnel. ISP supplied gateways typically don't support router to router VPN tunnels so you'll want to get 3x business grade routers that do support that, and correctly set them up behind the ISP supplied gateway..which you'll need to reconfigure to run in a bridged or public IP subnet pass through mode.
