Need opinions on a Subwoofer please

Post by Cameron203 »

Anyone know which speaker would sound better in a 250 sq. ft. rectangular room? A Klipsch HD 500 8" Subwoofer (http://www.klipsch.com/high-definition- ... ter-system) or a Yamaha YST-SW216 a 10" Subwoofer. (http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-vi ... mode=model)

I would go with the bigger 10",or even a 12" will give you better bass.

I have 2 12" subs in my home theater room.

It's weird I hooked the 10" up and it didn't seem very responsive until it gets cranked up pretty high. The 8" is way more responsive down low then gets pretty muddy the louder it gets.

Klipsch speakers are very efficient usually, but with subs bigger is usually better, and brand matters (i.e. Velodyne..)

I'll second that. I've got a 10" Velodyne teamed with some Martin Logans in my living room. Superb sub, allows for automatic tuning with the accompanying microphone.

I built my own. Two 18 inch drivers made for ht.. powered by a 1500 watt amp and using a Feedback Destroyer Pro to level out the peaks and valleys. It's setup as an infinite baffle so you really don't see it. It's in the attic.

Freaks the living daylights out of you when it really goes off.

If I play a 55 to 60 hz tone and crank it up and you stand underneath it... you can hardly see or talk as it vibrates the hell out of you. When I was testing it, I hit over 110 dbs from 8 to 250 hz.. It was shaking stuff of the kitchen and dinning room walls at 50 to 65 hz.

It replaces one I built a while back that I think I had pics of on here. It was a 15 inch driver with a 300 watt amp in a ported design. It sounds damn good for what I had into it. Around $450 but it's kinda big.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.
