things to be concerned about before starting a gaming server

Post by Jesus »

In a while i will be starting a server for Half Life: DOD, Or quake 3 arena. What should i be concerned about.

1.should i run it through an FTP or my IP.
2.like some pricks around and screwing my server up.
3. Is it possible to start a server with two people hosting possibly to make it faster.

ive also heard that it is possible to push a trogeen horse up.

im not to sure about this one but what about backdooring your comp??

First concern to me would be do you have the bandwidth to serve whats your upload speed?

Without the proper bandwidth to serve peeps wont have smoothe game play and go else where

Also is this gonna be a 24/7 server or just a fly by night server cause you have to have it running long enough to get regulars

True i have a dedicated server but i only put it up for clan practice and me and my friend to screw around on. To have a successful cs server i think you have to have a good os. Mine is on win2k. second of course you need a fast pc, im talking p3 id say nothing under a 700. Most of all though in the pc requirements you need alot of ram. I have 256pc133 and i should prolly get another 128meg dimm. If you have the ability to let the server run during most the day and you meet all those requirements i think youll have a good cs following in about a week or two
