Error message

Post by 24giovanni »

At least once a day my pc loses connection to the internet where I have to reboot my PC to reconnect to the internet. I checked out event viewer and each time it happens I get the following error "name resolution for the name dns.msftncsi.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

What is causing this and how do I fix it? OS is Win 7 home premium SP1 64 bit. I already replaced them modem once.

thx

This may or may not be a problem with Microsoft NCSI (Network Connectivity Status Indicator).

NCSI should have no problem connecting and testing connectivity, it may very well be a problem with your ISP. You can try the registry modification mentioned in the MS article, but be sure to backup the entire key prior to changing any values. That way you can easily revert if another problem results.

Know that you're not the only one with this problem:

and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

No, just the key.
Keys are the folders; Values are what you see on right side.
Tt click the key and select Export > type a name for it > Save to a directory.

I'd look at your NIC driver also, especially if it's a more software driven NIC.

Last time I saw an issue like this it was the OS corrupt at some point and required a reload or the network adapter was taking a dive.

Yeah maybe go into device mangler and remove and reinstall the network adapter.
