hard drive isue

hard drive isue
I keep on getting an error message of "replace or repair hard disk" I tried chkdsk /r but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can try? it's a seagate barracuda thats was bought on 03/02/2009. 500 GB.

Depending on the model, may have a 1 year or 3 year warranty, can check via your serial number on this page

So that link shows it's a model with a 3 year warranty...

Lemme go get my calculator and some scrap paper to do some math on...

Yup I'd say it's still under warranty and you should be able to get a replacement. I'd start a while ago by going to that warranty and returns assistance page that I gave a link for up above...enter in your information, and get the ball rolling on a replacement. It's a very quick and easy process.

Just a note about some of the Seagate drives:
Some of them were going bad, I think there was a recall a while back. Something to do with the drivers writting on to the negative part of the platter (where the firmware is stored).
I'd RMA the drive asap. Haven't personally had any experience with RMA drives from Seagate, but my guess is that they'll send you back a refurb / recertified drive.
