Quick Question RE WIM files

Post by ColdFusion »

Going to help a guy out with his computer. He says he formatted and reinstalled Windows Vista and needs his files restored that he backed up to DVD disks. He has 4 disks and tells me they contain WIM and CAB files. Is this a image backup of Windows Vista? Like are these bootable disks? I'm thinking I should just try and extract the files he needs somehow but searching google for WIM files returns some fairly complex instructions on mounting and editing these files. I see 7zip supports WIM files ... will I be able to load them up and extract what he needs that way?

Thanks
Matt
