optical intellimouse

Post by david24151 »

I recently purchase the optical intellimouse and was wondering if anyone has had this prob or knows how to fix it. whenever i try downloading something and the download window pops up to save as or even in download accelerator the mouse freezes up temporarily. it is very annoying any suggestions appreciated? also is there anyway to get that red light on the bottom to go off cuz it stays on even if the computer is off. thanks

I have trouble with mine. I fear it's because of an IRQ sharing/usb issue. I started using the PS/2 adapter just to run a test to switch it over to ps/2 and it hasn't failed since.

thanks dmsmed i switched over to the ps2 adapter also and it has helped quite a bit but there is still the occasional stall but it is better.

did you install the mouse's software? also the red light is supposed to go off when the computer is off, and there is no way the light can stay on if the computer is off, are you just putting your computer to "sleep"? try downloading the software update for it off the m-soft website. if all this failes either A) your comp is messed up or B) your mouse is messed up and you should exchange it

thanks striderf1 i have installed the software that came with it and also the download and it don't seem to make a difference the stalling has stopped but the light does not go off. (winme) start-shutdown-click ok and my comp shuts down but the light is a nice little nite lite cuz it glows away.

The light will not go out if the mouse is hooked up to the PS2 port. The ATX power supply still gives power to the PS2 ports even when off. This allows you to power up the computer by a mouse click or a keboard combo.

Sorry dont know whats causing your prob sounds pretty srewy to me.

Good luck with it though.

The IntelliMouse Optical has a known problem. Microsoft will replace it free of charge due to a problem with the USB cable on the mouse.

I was having random mouse pointer freezes and I called tech support and they admitted to the problem and took care of it. Got the replacement and no more problem.

It never occured to me it could be the mouse. This Microsoft article Q232824 addresses (more of a disclaimer) the issue.

Oops,
The issue being the USB issue.

I think this is the number I called to get a hold of them (425) 635-7040. They have no 800 number for support so you'll incur a toll charge.

When you first call they set up a case number and a profile for you, WRITE THESE DOWN :) Also, be prepared to give them the product ID from the bottom of your mouse (ie. xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxx)
