Hello,
my problem occured today after a totally random connection problem. I lost connection to the internet for like a minute. Nothing too odd about it though, happens sometimes. But after this time, everything got messed up - apparently.
Problem's symptoms -
- I can connect to a ventrilo server and stay there without any problems.
- I can ping websites. The ping is relatively high at some points, but there is no packet loss.
- Regardless what browser I try to use the connection is really unstable or/and slow.
- I tried my download speed multiple times. It should be at least 130 kb/s, but the results showed that its hopping between 20 kb/s and 80/s.
- When I press a link, it doesn't usually do what I asked the computer to do. Instead mozilla says "Done" at the bottom. After spamming with my mouse on the link over and over again, it finally does what I asked it to. However, loading pages takes a lot more time, than it usually did.
- All the connection settings seem to be fine. (IP, DNS, et cetera)
- The problem does not occur on my laptop, when I pull the cable from my computer and plug it in into my laptop.
So my first guess was a virus of somekind. I checked my computer with NOD32 and Malwarebytes. Nothing. I'm quite sure its something with my computer, not the connection itself as everything is fine on my laptop. I tried release and renew, plugging the cable in and out - nothing helps. The connection itself comes from air (some sort of advanced wifi, called wimax) and leads it to my modem. My computer is directly behind it.
Any help and thoughts would be highly appereciated.
Thanks in advance,
Carlo.

My first guess would have been to tell you to change your ethernet cable, but since you've tested it with your laptop and it is stable there, my guess would probably be your computer's ethernet connection. It may be a driver issue or some sort of negotiation issue. You should try this:
1.) Identify your current network card driver and download a new version from the manufacturer's website.
2.) Uninstall it the old driver and install the new one.
3.) Test out your connection
If the problem still persists, it may be a negoation issue (check under your driver properties to see if the speed/duplex settings are set to autonegotiate. The most common setting is autoneg for 100FD, most of the newer motherboards will do gigabit, but its best to set it to autoneg 100FD if your network is 10/100.)
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
