Internet Connection keeps disconnected

Post by spongejai7 »

I have Comcast for about 1 year. In the last 2 months. The internet connection keeps disconnected and reconnected for every 30 minutes. I call the comcast and they sent 3 technicans to my house. They said it's not the network problem. It's the problem with my computer. They told me that it might be the dust in the cpu. So I clean the dust off my cpu. But it still disconnecting. It's quite bothering. Any help?? :cry:

Are you hard wired or wireless?

Aside from your nic card going bad I'd say it's highly unlikely that dust would cause your internet to go down. Unless this has caused your nic card to go bad. Do you have onboard ethernet? If so, I'd try picking up a nic card and see if that changes it.

I've done hardware repair for a very long time and dust generally causes issues with your case fan and cpu fan, sometimes even memory. I've never seen it do much else.

NIC = Network Interface Card.
Many are "onboard" now...built into the motherboard, instead of needing a PCI card.

Are you plugged directly into the modem, or on a router?
When it disconnects....does the red X appear in your system tray..such as if you unplug your ethernet cable? Or...your PC just stops getting internet access?

Is your PC clean from ad/spy/malware?

yeah..I am not buying the dust thing...it could be the modem (not likely if they have been there 3 times...then again). Other item to check is the Router if you have one connected. I had a similar issue and found that if I reset the router (not the cable modem) the issue was fixed, for a while. I still experience the issue and just reset the router when it happens...one of these days I will invest in a new one.

could be a crappy router, get a new one or hook directly to the cable modem and see if it still has problems.

When you go offline, does your cable modem's lights stay on? If so its your router locking up. If you use bit torrent with a cheap home router (any one you find for under $300) this will happen.

Buy a better router or build your own with a open source router like pfsense (need a spare dedicated pc)
