Reading gen forum is like......puke and yawn
SG really needs a political forum, where the partisan spouting politics can be thrown in the trash. SG gets old real quick because of all the partisan BS...IMO
No wonder SG partisipation is WAYYYYYYYYY down.
Makes me wonder why I even come around, its the same ol' same ol' from the same few canstantly.
Then the the threads pop up, where has everyone gone?????
SG has become no better than the rags in the check out line. Worse most times because of the personal attacks that continually occur, the majority from forum mods.
I was once solely a SG forumer.
It used to be a fun place
Oh well, back to my truck site where we will not tollerate the political crap and personal attacks that go on here.

I come and read a few threads. Get burnt out on all the BS threads and the bashing like what humby just did. All I see is crap so I don't even bother logging in. Thought it would get better after the election but i guess not.
Well back to ultimate-guitar, vanderbilly, guitarnoise and all my other homes away for homes.

I feel the same way so I just never bothered coming around for month or so. I pop in and This is the first thread i see at the top of the gen. How Ironic? or is it?
*barfs in bucket/wipes slober from chin with the wrist of his reindeer sweater and blindly passes bucket*
IMO Not fit for rats anymore
I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous
sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box
make us super admins for a day that would be effective, Honestly Rudy we don't have any control over the evolution of this forum.Roody wrote:Absolutely. Suggestions or complaints are welcome to help make the site better, but members taking the initiative is as effective as anything.
Initiative soon gets flamed around here.
How about we vote on who gets banned? I nominate me!
can you pass the bucket back my way soon!

I think you missed my point. What I am saying is if you think the Gen forum is going in a direction you don't like then start threads that take it in a direction you like. If you don't like all the political threads then start a thread that isn't politically based. I get the complaints and I understand them, but you guys have alot of power to change things. Sitting back and talking about how we should make things better isn't very effective unless you use the ability you do have to make it how you think it should be. A person doesn't need Admin/Mod abilities or a seperate forum to do that.Randy wrote:make us super admins for a day that would be effective, Honestly Rudy we don't any control over the evolution of this forum.

Essentially my point is to walk the walk after talking the talk. I don't mean that to sound as bad as I know it may come across, but I think you guys get the idea.
No, I meant Humby. We have already chatted in a pm so all is cool. I'm not PO'ed at him, just thought the comment was uncalled for, but then again I don't come here and maybe it was called for.Dan wrote:you meant Chris ?!
I know that I have changed and grown a bit over the last few years. Probably the reason you don't see me around much. I used to come here and feel like part of a family. Now I feel the family is seriously dysfunctional.

What I mean is coming on to the site and complaining about how something is going doesn't work very well if the people complaining don't do their own part to help make the site better. That's not a dig at Chris, you or anyone else. I am just saying I agree the site is in a bit of a funk, but what we need is everyone's help to make it better.Randy wrote:lemons = lemonaide? < that what you mean?
Fair enough, but that doesn't mean you give up and walk away because you don't like the decision that was made. I for one had no issues with giving a political sub-forum a chance, but I do agree with those who opposed it that I seriously doubted that people could seperate their feelings that came about due to that sub-forum and that those feelings would likely spill over.UOD wrote:Well, for the record, I did do everything in my power to have a politics and religion sub-forum created but the powers that be don't agree.
There is a polarizing effect to political discourse on discussion forums.
Regardless it's not where Philip or Ken want to take the site and that's their call to make so let's work with what we can work with.
I need to have a look at the stats page so I can start profiling and working on my "Why Sg gen Sucks" power point presentation.Roody wrote: the site is in a bit of a funk![]()

Spill over = automatic ban. We all agreed that it was fair.
So right now we have open hostility with zero consequences. And I'm not talking just about consequences between members...I'm talking about the consequences of public perception.
How do outsiders view this place and what kind of people actually go through with the sign up process and begin posting?
UOD, Philip and Ken made their decision. You can keep going on about something that isn't going to happen or you can make the best of what the situation currently is.UOD wrote:Spill over = automatic ban. We all agreed that it was fair.

Again I see your point and I don't necessarily disagree with it, but the situation is what it is. Personally I am trying to make the best of what we have at our disposal.

I couldnt agree more. As you can easily see from my post count.. I dont post that often and frankly in the last year or so I have been visiting less and less as others like me.
The Gen Forum USED to be a fantastic meeting place but the politics and pure hatred have degraded it to the equivilant of a kick in the nads. Yeah I can take it once in a great while, but every other thread.. not going to stay around. Now I admit that weekly I do check in to see the subjects.. but usually just move on. Its just not that friendly and inviting anymore.
I think back to some of the older members that USED to be here and post often and wonder if this nasty thread posting and threads only created to stir up hatred are the reason. What ever happened to members like Pie and MeanMike?? We used to have good disagreements with both but noone got out of hand and we all left friends at the end of the threads.
Myself, I have found a different forum that doesnt tolorate this crap, expecially from the moderators! Threads about wishing death to the Pres or VP, or constant bombardment of insults to the people who happen to think that a person with a higher IQ that John Kerry (Bush) is not an idiot just not a great public speaker. Or even post from members in the UK (yes Im refering to Steve, he is a scurge on the forum, IMO) or other places outside the USA, constantly degrading our country and leaders and policies.
Strange how quickly Brent had gotten banned from just random craziness, but others get a complete pass because the Mod(s) agree with thier thoughts, I guess.
Until Phillip or Ken get a grip on the out of control hatred and political crap. Myself and others will slowly be saying goodbye forever and leave this forum to the dailykos types.

It does work. If you want to discuss a topic then create a thread discussing it. Members can impact the direction the forums go when it comes to this stuff. That said if the idea is to pass the buck while doing nothing to make it better then yes I agree it wouldn't work.YARDofSTUF wrote:Doesn't work.
For the record I don't disagree with the idea of a sub-forum.

It doesn't work because everyone goes off in the politcal/religous threads and either doesn't want to read more of SG then or stays in the arguing thread.Roody wrote:It does work. Well if that's the case then I doubt a sub-forum would help at all if you think that people will only be in those threads arguing.YARDofSTUF wrote:It doesn't work because everyone goes off in the politcal/religous threads and either doesn't want to read more of SG then or stays in the arguing thread.
That's what Roody is pointing out though, it doesn't matter what the majority wants. It's not our site.Sava700 wrote:Just from looking at this thread..and those that are left that come here on a regular bases it would seem the majority wants a sub forum for political and religion... If anything I think its time to have a vote from subscribing members of the site...couldn't hurt.
Philip makes the calls and has every right to do so. I assume he has his own reasons for what he does and doesn't allow here. Although we can question those choices and agree or disagree with them we have no right to override them.
yep..never said otherwise, but a vote wouldn't hurt and would most likely show what the majority would like to have either way.Humboldt wrote:That's what Roody is pointing out though, it doesn't matter what the majority wants. It's not our site.

I think a sub forum would change that. People wouldn't feel its hopeless/pointless to discuss something else because the political/religious threads wouldn't drown out the rest of the topics then.Roody wrote:Well if that's the case then I doubt a sub-forum would help at all if you think that people will only be in those threads arguing.

Well I created a thread about my problem with the type of threads and discussion has happened, so I guess the thread is going the way I hoped it would.
