Case cooling/card and drive placement

Post by sear_yoda »

Alright I was reading the how to build a PC guide over at sharky extreme and they said something about spacing out the PCI cards for better cooling. Does having the cards spaced out (slot-wise) do anything to the hardware,or screw it up in windows? I would love better cooling in my box, but I don't know if this would be best. and also, spacing out HDD and cd things.

Slot configuration: Use what works best w/ your PCI components and motherboard. "Proper spacing" should be consiered second, as some components don't like certain slots on certain motherboards due to resources conflicts and other issues.

Drive configuration: Depends on the case, amount of drives, location of fans, etc.

I personally like to leave the first PCI slot unoccupied. That way there isn't a PCI card directly adjacent to the video card, which is one of the biggest heat contributors, if it's a high-end 3D card (GeForce 1/2, Radeon, etc.).

one more question: at crucial.com, they only list PC1600 memory for the new Asus A7M266, and I was wondering where is the best place I can get PC2100.
