The posters in that thread don't seem to know much about the world of the internet.

His ISP didn't give anybody his browsing history. He was caught uploading.

What a dummy.

ISPs do not retain any "packet history" either. They can monitor what is being transferred by using a packet sniffer, but sniffer logs are quite large and I doubt they save the logs and they don't sniff all customer traffic, unless the isp is running an app like Carnivore, which would have to have been installed by the DoJ.

The kid got caught because (1) he had torrent running and the ISP detected the open ports for torrent and (2) he had a partial (incomplete) download that was being shared via torrent. And it's likely he'd downloaded a lot of other stuff priorly, else why does he have torrent installed to begin with.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

File-sharing morons have no idea that it's THEIR actions that will bring about increased mass supervision of what sites we visit and what we download; instead, they rail against ISPs for "invading their privacy." Total imbeciles.
