Strange charactors after C/P text

What would cause the text to change after mailing something that is copied and pasted from Word, (97, 2003, 2007) to Outlook Express?

He checked with Verizon because when emailing, Verizon DSL times out, (they told him within 5 minutes). So anything that takes longer, (most every email) he is having this problem with the charactors showing up as follows:

didn’t should of been didn't
Huong’s should of been Huong's

The words that do this seem to be triggered by ' the appostrify.

Would the dsl timing out cause this? If so is there a way to work around this?

He does all his mail this way, composes in one of the word programs then copies and pastes to the new email.

what version Outlook Express, Word, etc... ?

anyway, take a look here at basic configuration settings. good info there. I suggest check every setting outlined on that page.


This MSKB addresses same problem except incoming mail issue

One more thing. This deals w/ formatting issues not character changes, but maybe the workaround might be useful as a test if the above don't resolve the problem.

- there are many reasons that text may change formatting when pasted into your document, but none of them are document corruption. You may have excess paragraph marks that store the unwanted formatting]

duh... I forgot. :o

I suggest try setting everything to plain text, then test.

then as you change settings for html mail & whatever else, you can locate the problem. provided plain text paste works, lol.

You're welcome. It's really just educated guess. :)

Maybe someone else has seen this problem before and knows a quick solution.

btw, that last link was word 2K7 specific I beleive.

Microsoft Word doesn't use standard characters for punctuation. Quotes, double quotes and various other characters are specific to Microsoft (Word), therefore, if you're copying the text from word into a window that expects plaintext (email?), then it's going to do what you're seeing there. As ghetto said, setting Word's output to plaintext should work. Do this by saving the file as a plaintext .txt file in word.
