Question for you guys
Question for you guys
A good good friend of mine is having a bachelor party in Tahoe next weekend. When I was invited I was told we'd all be driving there together on Friday (about an 8 or 9 hour trip) going to a Galactic show Saturday, then returning home Sunday.
Fine. Sounds good.
Now it turns out that the guy driving and the guy getting married both took Friday off so they could leave Thursday evening and have more time to relax/party. Great, except I can't take that day off.
Meaning I have to either blow off a good friend's bachelor party or drive 9 hours Friday night after working most of that day, party one night and drive another 9 hours home Sunday. I'm tempted to say **** it, sorry. I don't have the money or the energy for that kind of trip right now.
Advice?

If you feel bad for not making it (as we're all saying here, your friend will understand), throw him a belated bachelor party for his first wedding anniversary. I'm sure his wife will understand.

Unless you can get a cheap flight! If you can get a flight for about 100 or less R/T you would be better off. Its probably gonna cost about 100bucks or so for gas, plus wear and tear on the car, food while travelling, dunno if there are tolls but that would increase the cost, plus 18 hrs of driving -vs- maybe 4hrs or so of R/T flight-time. You at least come home rested and in time.
First find the cheapest ticket at the airline site.
Go to priceline.com and start with a bid of 60% off normal ticket prices and work your way up to 40%. You might get crappy flight times but still better then driving.

I would make every attempt to make my friends bachelor party but that's just me. Try to get off work Thursday. Talk to your other colleagues and try switching the schedule around. Tell them it means a lot to you. If all else fails, call in sick.
After all, good friends are hard to find not to mention good friends last a lifetime, work/jobs do not.

Normally getting the time off wouldn't be an issue, but we have a small enough crew that when 1 or 2 people already have time off there just aren't enough people to go around.Joint Chiefs of Staff wrote:I would make every attempt to make my friends bachelor party but that's just me. We're already 2 people short that day, no way to take the time off.
I fell ya, I am the only one covering the office to and I am going to Havasu and everyone has to wait for me. It isnt worth driving byself all that way, it is a long 9 hours when you are alone plus traffic if there is any before you hit the road going up there. I love Tahoe but you have to think or the pros and cons. So since you posted today I am assuming you are not going?
