Hard drive wont stop running

I have windows xp. Just yeasterday my hard drive wont stop running. Just keeps on crunching away. I did scan didnt find any threats at all. It dont seem to be slowing anything down. Also cpu usage is normal. But still just bugging the heck out of me. I realy dont think its the virues scanner i put in. I have comcast and when my norton 1 year ran out. I desided to try the free one that comes with comcast. But my hard drive for the week I had it never did this. So I dont think its the new scanner. So am not sure what it is. Any help I would love.

Have you checked MSCONFIG to see what is loading at startup?

I'd mop up the rest of Norton..whatever's left behind, use their SymNRT to more fully uninstall it.

How much RAM do you have? McAfee isn't the lightest AV out there...may be running on swapfile if you don't have a lot of RAM.

It might also need some maintenance, run CCleaner to get rid of junk files...run a checkdisk, then run a defrag.

Thanks i tired all that but nothing. Am realy just starting to think that there is something just wroung with the light.

Well it seemed doing a system restore helped. But now I have another problem. How do u do a clean uninstall of mcafee? Because it messed up the uninstall files for it.
