Cable modem seems faster on Linux

I just installed Mandrake 7.2 which allows duel boot Win98, I noticed however my bandwidth using Linux seems much faster with my cable modem then Windows, does anyone else agree or have a explanation why it does?

The key word here is "seems" it is faster or it is not, and yes you will have to ask Bill what "is" means, the bottem line is whichever one you like the best

a couple years ago i had @home and after i got it setup in slackware i was able to upload at 100 KB/s as opposed to the 40K i was getting in windows, it didn't effect my downstream much though. i'm guessing linux is faster in some cases because windows is a bloated peice of garbage when it comes to networking

I beleive that TCP/IP stack for for Linux is inherently faster,and does not require tweaking for optimum performance. This could be the reason that it seems to run faster.

Might want to try some ftp speed test to see how much of a diiference you notice.
