Disconnected from LAN?

Post by vvarrior »

Hey we have a small company here and I only see it with one user because he leaves his computer on all the time. It disconnects him from the shared drives and wont allow him to use the shared printers after a period of i dunno 12 hours. Is there any way I can set something on the network like this this doesn't happen?

What kind of network and devices are we talking about? Is this a domain running Windows server, or just a peer-to-peer network?

Also are the shared drives on a PC that someone else is using and might be shutting down? Could it be power configurations putting the PCs that the drives and printers are connected to into sleep mode?

Has the server been promoted to a domain controller (DCPROMO, Active Directory)? Or just running in workgroup mode?

A server should never really be going into standby mode. That is likely the cause of your problem, the server goes into standby and won't be taken out until someone does something on it.

Can you post the IP settings on the server, and an IPCONFIG /ALL from a workstation?
