I was reading that there isn't any action scenes. ANd that its more drama than war/drama....

Couldn't of said it better.

I'm not sure how you could make a realistic movie about a soldier and not fill the thing with cussing. Some things just go together.

These days? If this is such a recent occurance, why was there any need for groups like the Legion of Decency, which began in the 30's?bigmo66 wrote:This Jarhead wants nothing to do with the movie. Almighty Father , whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.
If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again.
Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.
AMEN.
Something wrong with that?
Contrary to what some folks in Hollywood would have you believe, not every Marine is a pud-whacking, foul-mouthed, hard drinking, womanizing animal.

OK, most of the guys that saw the movie that i know liked it. The one that i saw it with tonight had already seen it, and he said he really didnt like it.
It was a good movie, showed parts of a war that a lot of war movies dont show.. It was very 'american beauty' in a lot of parts.. but that makes sense. Heres my big problem with it... If i had fought in desert storm i would be offended.. and even though i didnt i still kinda do. I think it gives a warm fuzzy to joe average citizen about whats going on over there. Call up any soldier/marine in iraq today and ask them how often they play football or throw parties in tshirts.. ask how often they discharge their weapons in the air...
It kinda makes a joke of it all.. granted, there were serious parts but it kinda made the marines out to look like a joke. Just my opinion.. even if it is a 100 percent acurate account of what this one marine went though. I think its giving the general public a bad idea of whats going on over there, and what went on over there in desert storm.

... ya really think that movie would boost enlistment? movies that are actually showing what goes on over there, i think would be counterproductive in the enlistment dept.knightmare wrote:Probably was a good movie, gotta say we need more of these since enlistment is down.

you are thinking like a woman, a civilian male in a area with higher than average unemployment, exhibiting or wanting to play out his macho desires-- could be influenced to embrace such a lifestyle.
