7200 rpm laptop hard drive?

Post by Rings890 »

I am not much of a laptop guy but I would like to replace the 80gig drive in my presario X1040US with something larger and faster, probably a 120gig 7200rpm hard drive. I have been unable to find such a beast for this laptop, is there such a thing or am I off my nut?

Yes..most brands out there make 7,200rpm 2.5" drives. Seagate makes a nice line, the Momentus. I think they only go up to 100 gigs on their 7,200 rpm model for lappies.

I recently upgraded my Thinkpads drive to a Samsung Spinpoint M, an 8 meg cache 5,400rpm model. I never liked Samsung desktop drives before, but their laptop drives, specifically these Spinpoint models....are said to be of very high quality, fluid bearings and actuators, above par shock resistance, etc. One of, if not the, quietest drives out there...ultra silent. I stuck with a 5,400 rpm model because I need longevity in battery life. The 8 megs of cache was a nice performance upgrade over my prior drive with only 2 megs.

i have the hitachi 60GB 7200RPM on my 600m
the new HDD is abit hotter than the old 4200RPM and plus it doesn't suck up that much of your battery power
only 10mins less or something...i think the problem with 7200RPM is the temp not the battery life

oh by the way don't forget to buy the external 2.5" HDD case for your old HDD
it would make a nice 2.0USB external HDD(just plug in and use no need external power)
