Petrol prices going up again... and you guys thought you had it bad.

Post by stevebakh »

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4133430.stm
The average price of unleaded petrol in the UK has risen above 90p a litre for the first time. Catalist, which monitors prices, says the average for unleaded is 90.2p a litre, and just under 94p for diesel.
Some places are charging in excess of £1.00 per litre now. Just to put that into perspective, that's $1.79 per litre and you guys pay around $2.30 per gallon, right? I think a US Gallon is 4 litres, which would mean we're forking out a good $7.16 per gallon. What a joke. Now when you consider BP and Shell are making annual profits in the BILLIONS, you'd think we'd get a little price cut - or rather, you think they'd let a few pence slide here or there SEEING AS THEY'RE BLEEDING ROLLING IN THE STUFF and making 1.8 million dollars an hour!
BP has reported a 26% rise in annual profits to $16.2bn (£8.7bn), after benefiting from high oil prices.

Agreed, both prices are insane considering how much is STOCK piled.....Too bad the powers that be have their hands in the cookie jars eh?

I read somewhere that a "certain" company made 175% of what they made a year ago....yet they aren't upping the price for no reason....

Intresting that they are low on it yet making more money then when they weren't...

$2.499 a gallon here now and what's worse, Home heating oil is nearly the same. I absolutely think I'll be dead when winter is over this year. Not even 3 years ago, #2 fuel oil was .89 a gallon. I just had the tank topped off for summer and it was $2.29 a gallon.

They can sight whatever reasons they want, none of them are valid as far as I'm concerned. It's just greed plain and simple.

$2.55 a gallon here for 87, and it keeps rising. Youd think the war would be making it go down?

2.49 here
Before the summer hit "experts" said it would reach 3.00 a gallon by the end of summer... I didn't beleive it but ****, we are getting close. Five years ago I remember gas was bearly a dollar a gallon. Wow, how much americans would save if it was like that now. BLAH :(

Heh... would be nice if I could get some petrol shipped from the States... or maybe even the middle east. That would be nice. Instead, I'm gonna have to try and stay in 5th gear as much as possible, as slow as possible. D'oh!

There should be some something in our government that stops that... I mean if all of a sudden all the guys that sold milk decided to sell it for 100 bucks a gallon, someone would stop them.. But they guys are allowed to keep raising the price, not because they are having to pay more for it but so they can pocket more of our money every month. I guess this is what happens when u have so much politics tied with oil, no one keeps it in check.

Go Arsenal!!!

Oh yeah... and I filled up with 93 Octane last evening for about $2.32/gallon. High gas prices suck.

edit: Get a bunch of friends together and start a gas station...err, petrol station? :D

Gas prices are relative to the price you're used to paying; to say, "and you guys thought you had it bad" is just foolish, because to Americans, the current prices are just as painful as yours are.

I know this.... you guys have always had it dirt cheap, like $2 a barrel at one point, but now it's coming up to match everyone else.

"and you guys thought you had it bad" was kind of in jest because you guys have had price increases lately. We've pretty much had continuous rises with the odd tiny drop and we still pay one of the highest costs. It sucks.

This is why my house heating/cooling is all electric. Even in the worst of winter and summer my electric bill is at max 175$ per month and averages 100-120 in neutral months(8-9 months a year).
