Sounds like a pretty basic answer, but if you recently got the modem, you should try to clear your cache. I'm not trying to sound too basic but it is a good starting point for a beginner. If that doesn't work, I recommend going to the cablenut site and downloading the speed patch.

thanks for the tips, but i am sorry to say that none of them made a difference. i think it may be something bigger than that i just dont know what. my speed dropped from about 35 times faster than 56k, to about 2 times faster. i did download various patches so im thinking maybe one of them might have caused this problem

Should be no problems there. Was the problem apparent before the patches were applied?

Sounds to me like it's tech support time. Have you already contacted them? If so, what'd they say?

they told me at first it was just a bad modem, so i went and got a new one. still had the same problem with new one. then they said that it was my fault for installing those patches. so he had me install their patch, still didnt work. finally he said i might just have to wipe out hard drive and start from scratch and basically hung up on me!...charter sucks!!!

I can't say for sure, but I don't think the problem is on your end. However, do you have another PC w/o tweaks that you could try your connection on?

This may seem crazy but it appears that after you install speed patches with Charter, they cap you off. It's almost as though thier spying on the speed you're getting through your DOCSIS modem. I know this sounds far fetched but this seems to be happening to most Charter users. It definitely happedned to me. When I first got my Pipeline connection going my speeds were about normal. When I installed the patches from speedguide, my speed shot through the roof. Well, about a week later, to my suprise, my speeds were decreased and no matter what new patches I used, or what I did, it would not work. I truly believe we were all Capped!! Anyhow, bottom line is that Charter sucks like a *****!
