speed upgrade,settings advice?

Post by Bandit159 »

Adelphia has upgraded speeds.

I get around 3500/768kbs now actuals,but new speeds are rated at 6mb/768

I use tcip optimizer an would like some numbers to possibly improve upon this.

This is a 2 edged question.I have a befsr-41 ver.3 router and a new sb5100 motorola surfboard modem.Now,for some reason i dont know,i can only use full auto negotiation setting in advanced network controller properties whereas befoe i could use any setting preferably force 100 full duplex.anything else kills my connection.need ideas as to why??

i'm not 100 sure on the duplex sometiems that is a driver issue with some network cards for example at school we have 3com network card connected to a 2500 canalyst switch when we put network cards in 100full the swtich ligths will come up amber or disconnect amber could be half or sometning isn't right.

Take a tcpip analyzer cut and paste everything below ip inofrmation in a new repaly

heres what i have.meanwhile i have went ahead,gotten cablenut,and nabbed some settings off one of your other posts. :) I seem to get around the same speeds tho-

also,i shouldve known that setting mtu to 1200 in router config was incorrect,but linksys tech insisted tho it made no sense to me.this was back when i was having connection problems,which in a large part i think were due to some rogue active x controls that somehow got in there.so,setting it back to 1500 and all is well there.I can now set to full duplex:bang: :)

TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

what ya think?

I would try power cycling the modem and router leave it off for about 5 mins if you haven't do the manual ips on the computers check for new firmware/drivers,
