Yes, and yes. They want to raise prices in June, but they have yet to send out a formal notice. Supposedly they're testing the waters to see how customers will react. I've already filed my formal protest with my local cable commission and I was the first and only complaint in my city/county.

Not a whole bunch of hub-bub here either. They will raise prices — everything else is going up — it's just a matter of when.

Even with the increase, it remains a value for the speeds. Nothing around here can come close to touching @home.

$6 now..but wait in another 6 months..it wil increase to $10..then in another year we are up to maybe 60 - 70 a month...one bad thing about cable they can raise rates and nothing can ever be done...especailly if they know they are the only market in town

I very well aware of how this works! If they increase now and no one says anything about it, they'll certainly not have a problem doing it again and again. I'm in the same predicament where I live, (Though not with the RR rates just yet) Cable T.V and Digital T.V. rates are going up annually, so it won't be long before they hit the Cable internet section. You can count on it!

Likewise, with no competition, the companies will use that excuse alone to up them to whatever they feel like and there isn't anything you can do about it. :(

I warned everyone here months ago that broadband rates absolutely MUST go up. Every broadband provider of residential broadband internet access is losing money. @Home has never made any money at all! Not 1 cent. Covad is not making any money and their rates are up to $49.95 a month, SBC (Pacific Bell for some of you) is up to $49.95 a month as well. I heard that SBC was losing 4-5 dollars a month on the $39.95 a month deal. The average price for DSL here in California is now $49.95 a month for 128k up and 1.5 megabits down max. AOL is 45 billion in debt, 20 billion in bonds alone! http://www.billparish.com/20010404americaonline.html and they own Time Warner which owns Road Runner. Even Copper Mountain which is one that WAS making money is no longer making money and is down in the 2's as far as stock price, Covad is just above 1 dollar a share and was de-listed from the Nasdaq, @Home is just above 4 dollars a share and was recently in the 3's where it will probably return. Remember, these are businesses that are publicly traded and are SUPPOSE to make money. When they don't, their stock prices get hammered and the analysts downgrade the stocks.

Great point martialcomp. The key thing here is the sky is not falling and this is the first increase I have ever got in two years. I have ATT.

It's still a great value and yes, I did call and complain about the increase, but we must always complain about price increases. You can't let them have it too easy! :D

Everything has gone up in price and especially oil effects the price of virtually each and every thing we consume, whether it be bandwidth, bread, shoes, routers, hairspray, guavas, clocks, pet food, bicycles, ball-point pens, water, mousepads, batteries, lawn seed, barbeques and the meat we burn on them, and well...I think you get the point.

Nevertheless, still call and complain. It's part of the routine. :D
