Latest BIOS is needed to break past the 137 gig barrier for a single drive.
combined with...
a minimum of service pack 3 for Windows 2000, or service pack 1 for Windows XP.

Yessir, your mobo BIOS. Are we talking about the rig in your sig? Asus has their live update utility to flash the BIOS right through Windows, online. Caution is wise when flashing your BIOS, read and proceed carefully. If the flash does not go 100% correctly, you can end up with a completely dead motherboard.

What OS are you running? What service pack?

His BIOS should be up to date enough to get past the 137 gb problem.

Goto Seagates website. I heard there is a cure for this.

read all of stonecat's post... you need 2000 SP3. SP2 and earlier don't support 48bit LBA... needed for getting more than 137GB capacity.

Hello,

i'm new here. I had the same problem when i installed my 200gb WD drive. I went through all the windows help stuff, bios update, service pack, registry changes etc.

To fix this problem when all else has failed, use partition magic 8 or something similar. Create one partition and input the true size of your hard drive as the partition size.
It worked for me.

Just backup any data just in case though!

that is the correct size, it has to do with the way they advertise drives versus the actual size.

True, you need Windows XP SP1 in order to have drive capacities larger than 137 GB available from the beginning (i.e., during OS install), but you also need to keep this in mind:
