Man shoots himself apparently over Bush's re-election

Post by Leatherneck »

Saw this at Foxnews.com. Pretty sad indeed. No need to be this distraught. Everyone can do their part to make things better.

Man Kills Self at Ground Zero
Saturday, November 06, 2004

NEW YORK — A 25-year-old university worker from Georgia shot and killed himself at ground zero (search) Saturday morning, authorities said.

The man, Andrew Veal (search), of Athens, Ga., was found atop the structure housing the 1 and 9 subway lines after a hotel worker spotted what he believed was somebody sleeping inside the site around 8 a.m., said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. A shotgun was found near the body, Coleman said. No suicide note was found, he said.

Veal apparently was distraught over President Bush's (search) re-election, Newsday reported Saturday on its Web site edition, citing an unnamed police source. The newspaper also said the man was a registered Democrat who opposed the war in Iraq.

Coleman said he could not confirm Newsday's account.

Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center (search) site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.

Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry, friends said Saturday.

Certainly wanted to be sure he got himself using a shotgun.
Toooo messy.
When the daughter's neighbour did it 18 months ago, he used an old .22 and a short shot round. No mess and was still sitting in the chair with his chin resting on the barrel.

Sad when this happens but to do it over politics is just plain dumb.

Prey is really Kerry's cabin boy. I can picture (literally) prey wearing a tank top and speedos waiting on Kerry...hand and foot.

Hey, at least the "moral majority" is a majority now, that's gotta count for something. Now if only they could work on the first part...

Anyone stupid enough to end their own life over a presidential election probably didn't deserve to live anyways, so it's better that he off'd himself...he's a moron plain and simple.

no where in the article is there any proof as to why this guy offed himself. The whole "over the election" is pure speculation and hersey.

I think its tragic that he did, regardless of the reasons, and can't imagine why anyone would ever think in any way that the world could possibly be a better place for it. If I were a christian I imagine I'd be praying for him and his family...

Well, if you are a Republican, surely you know that our party espouses the company of the MORAL majority(read Christian right)....and if you aren't a Christian, I expect the moral police to attempt to kick us out of the party....since we don't fit in...

Praying for him after he off'd himself is a moot point, since he's burning in hell right about now. His family should be prayed for however.

If he didn't off himself cuz of the elections, then yeah, it is sad that he couldn't deal with something to the point where he chose to end his life.....but if he did do it cuz Bush won, then he's an idiot plain and simple.

DAMN! Croc knows more than the people that live in the USA. The current "conservative" party has a fetish for modifying the constitution it seems. Closet liberals almost.

well, you can't espouse christian morals in one thread or argument OR ideology, and then forsake them in another can you? Heck, that might be considered a flip-flop!!!
Or just good 'ole hypocrisy.

Certainly, it must be more than the election.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.
