Is that a tan you got Kerry?

Post by Ghosthunter »

September 29, 2004 -- John Kerry has suddenly become the man with a tan that even George Hamilton would envy — leading to accusations that something is shady just before the big presidential debate.
How the Democratic presidential candidate got his striking new orange glow depends on whom you ask.

The Kerry camp reportedly insisted he earned it fair and square — by baking in the sun during a game of flag football last Friday in Bedford, Mass.

But a top New York dermatologist — after studying new photos of Kerry — told The Post yesterday that the deep bronze color appears to be one big fake.

"Wow! That is a tan! He has color all over his face. But if he had gotten it all outside, he wouldn't have been so evenly tanned," said Dr. Ted Daly of Garden City Dermatology.

"My diagnosis is: it's a tanning salon — some ultraviolet rays."

Daly — affiliated with Stony Brook University Medical Center and Winthrop-University Hospital — added: "Maybe he's trying to be more handsome for the female voting block."

Kerry's colorful transformation — which comes just before his first TV debate with President Bush tomorrow — also had Manhattan tanning salons abuzz with theories on how he went from paleface to golden boy.

"To me it looks like it came out of a bottle or was sprayed on. He's too fair so that's why it looks orange," said Sarh Degaetano, a tanning consultant at Hollywood Tans on Sixth Avenue in Chelsea.

"With all that money he has, he should spend it on a quality tan job."

Kerry, a prostate-cancer survivor who often appears pallid, may be trying to project a healthy image for the crucial debate. But experts said he should worry more about his physical health than his political well-being.

"With his fair skin, he's more at risk for skin cancer than someone with olive skin. I would really suggest for him to minimize his tanning," Daly said.

"People do it because it's equated with beauty — but in reality, it ages you, it causes more wrinkling, more liver spots.

"And cases of melanoma are skyrocketing."

Told Kerry's tan was being viewed as suspect, campaign spokesman Phil Singer had no immediate response.

President Bush's camp also declined comment, but a senior Republican told The Post:

"Last week, he was pale and today he looks like George Hamilton. Most Americans are going to find that a bit strange. [The tan] doesn't seem to have a lot of credibility."

considering how many people base theyre opinions on looks and other insignificant things, i think trying to do anything to improve his ugly mug is for the best. im sure it wasnt his idea. im sure bush is doing similar stuff, getting a haircut, trimming his nose hair and the such.

theyre both getting ready to be on tv. good for them. not newsworthy in my opinion

The debate isn't really going to be much of one.......

Since the Presidential Debates were taking over from the League of Women Voters in 86 (I believe that's the year), they've gone downhill ever since. Both the Dems and Reps put in what they want in the debate. This year is ridiculous. I think I read that the rules covering it are 32 pages worth.

It's gotten so bad that that Walter Cronkite called them a national fraud.

Some key points off the top of my head in this one...from a show I was listening to yesterday.

Nobody is allowed to join in..(Nader) unless they have at least 15 percent support in the polls..(Maybe this is a good thing).

The audience has to vow "soft support" of the candidates on stage.....Whatever that means...lol

They must also pledge to be quiet...no sneezing, coughing , fidgeting ect ect..and no talking..

No discussion from either candidate is to go over 30 seconds for any question raised by the moderating panel...

The questions are screened by both parties in advance of the debate...which really locks out a lot of issues facing this country..

So how is this debate financially supported? Fortune 500 companies.....That should say something all by itself.

And lastly? GH, I'd not worry about John's tan. Why? Because guess who has control of the feeds? Exclusive control......

Fox. Think about it...you can bet your house, they'll provide us, and the world with every orange tinged shot they can muster up including probably getting filters to get it....along with every sweat drop the comes from Kerry's forhead and everytime Kerry may scowl...Bush of course on cue will be able to muster every single monkey face he's great at doing and we'll not see a single one of them...

One thing that the Kerry camp wanted was the temps to not get over 70 as Kerry sweats easily.......the Bush camp got their wish that the climate would be too cold for George......It's also the wish of the Bush camp that Fox get the exclusive feeds out of the debates.......gain, don't worry about Kerry's tan. Rove has taken care of it. Besides, I'd rather hear what issues are going to be discussed (the few they'll cover) than worry about who looks the best...

Ah, the ol' Kennedy TV trick. Now they just need for Bush to be pasty, sweat a lot and have a five o'clock shadow, and the election is in the bag for Cap'n Swiftboat.

And ROFL at downhill's Fox conspiracy theory...Karl Rove is the evil mastermind of the world!!! Hahahaha....even Pat Caddell can't stand his party's direction, but that evil Rove's gonna "steal" the election "again"!

We'll see Burke...we'll see....

If your insinuating that Fox is beyond playing dirty tricks....of course you'd be wrong. Right?

Fox conspiracy theroy...well I did some searching for links.....Seems even though Fox IS controlling the feeds....They won't have final say on what the various networks show....

The Commission on Presidential Debates said it cannot control the debate TV feed.

Looks to me, the orange tint is still viable. Sorry Charlie....We'll see eh?

More boring things about the "debates"..

But since both sides had to agree to the debate rules, that's a non-issue.

Will Fox yeller-up Kerry? Beats me, dude, but looks like he's done enough Queer-Eye style spray tanning to have done it himself, obviously trying to mimic the JFK-Nixon debate advantage. I just find it funny that everyone thinks Karl Rove is some svengali Wizard of Oz that is secretly controlling everything, just like people saying Cheney is the "real" president. I mean, give me a break.

please my friends. you have to remember that john kerry is a communist spy.

the manchurian candidate is indeed bold if he thinks his chinese bosses in the east wil stand for him leaving the party. The people's commissar is keeping a close eye on comrade Kerry. Party doctrine ****-tates that all the people must rise up to teach the capitalist pig dogs a lesson. Capitalists are crazy if they think they can keep their paycheck and freedom just because they strive to better themselves through hard work and dedication. remember, the union protects the lazy worker. people who think for themselves are obviously mad and need to be helped by the govt to get on welfare to set them on the correct path. for once you start down the kerry path. forever will it dominate your destiny consume your every will in taxes like jim crowe's apprentice Kerry.

Is the Liberal side stronger? No, no!. Quicker, easily more seductive. But how am I to know the Liberal side from the republican. you will know. when you look at your taxes and whether you are calm and passive or postal.
