Post by Zilog B »

There is going to be a Draft in 2005/2006... and it will be unpopular...

Just my 2 cents, and what I feel is going to happen. Don't have any facts to back it up, except for that's where I feel things are headed in the Middle East.

My prediction is that there is going to be a Civil War here in the United States, a political civil war.

twice Ive mentioned to bush supporters how much this war is costing per person/family.

they swore they'd write the check in a heartbeat. (bullsh1t)

I bet they'll be just as pleased to send their first-born sons and daughters.

We are spread thin as far as grunts go. Got plenty of air force and navy, our enemy doesn't have many planes or ships. We need more boots.

A fly in that ointment. They're already moving airmen from career fields that are overmanned into various MOS's in the Army to free up more "grunts" for combat.

Believe me, the Pentagon and many in Washington, on both sides of the aisle, will fight this tooth and nail. The military doesn't want non-voluteers and nobody in Congress (besides Rangel (D) and a handful of others) want the political career ender of reinstating the draft. The only exception I see would be a direct invasion by an overwhelming force. At that point, I doubt they'd be lacking for volunteers. :thumb:

Why we wont have one...

We currently have a "professional" millitary. That is why we are so effective. You don't win wars because of pure numbers.

Drafties would be pretty ineffective, not that they wouldnt fight hard. We have the most advanced forces in the world. It would be like asking random people on the street to go play in the NFL. Not going to work very well...

Also our forces are currently setup to fight multiple theaters of war at once.... So no worries.

AND... if the time does come, we are all the way on the other side of the world. we could say screw it and drop the big one ;)

It would if you could use those people as an extra line of defense in the front. A "human shield" of sorts. ;)

The military is really not interested in a bunch of dead beats that do not want to fight for their country. The draft is dead and will most likely remain so.

I doubt that...if Kerry is elected he will do a draft. My guess is he is going to pull out most of troops and Iraq is going to have worst trouble now.

In fact I doubt there will be a draft ever. If I am wrong doesnt congress have to vote on it? If that is the case most of them wants to get reelected.

wow there must be kittens dying somewhere because in the same thread i agree with BOTH ghosthunter AND saved!

but anyway. as ive said in ever single draft thread that pops up every couple of months. they wont reinstate the draft. in a lot of ways, they cant. at least with the current standards that they have for joining the military back in vietnam days practically anyone could join, the dirty fat kids, the dumb kids, the stoners, and even offered it as an option rather then going to jail.

todays military is different, they have strict weight standards, a no drug policy, have to have ur highschool deploma, theres a ton of medical stuff they look for and that can bar you from joining and they arent taking people outta jail.

as ive said in the past, look at your average graduating class, i would probably say that there is less than 20 percent of those kids that are not overweight, havnt smoked pot in the last 30 days, are physically fit to at least pass the initial physical fitness test, and have no significant medical conditions.

now take that 20 percent and exclude the females, the only male children, and the oldest male child. that would probably cut even that small number of people significantly.

so all these people that are fearing this thing like its the next plague have nothing to worry about, they arent going to want someone that eats cheetos till theyre fingers are orange and sits on a computer all day.

this isnt the vietnam eras army anymore. we have higher standards today because we need them, as military, i can tell u without a doubt that we wouldnt want someone who couldnt meet the minimum standards to join the military regardless of what they are. we dont want a fat kid with asthma who smokes weed all day being the one that is supposed to drag our butts out of enemy fire if we are injured.

besides we have lost just over 1000 troops in iraq, and although each one of those should be a national tragady, it is not nearly as many as in vietnam. believe it or not but recruitment numbers at least for the army are at or above normal. young people that qualify are actually joining willingly and i dont think thats going to stop.

i think these people that are fearing the draft so much are not justified in doing so, and if by any act of god or bush that they ever did reinstate the draft, they would start from the most qualified and work down. the people who are worrying should be the ones who are worrying least about this.

I don't think you guys will bring back the draft and I hope you don't either, but if you do, Canada's population could use a little boost.

I Just hope we won't want to build a momument for these guys too.

http://www.johntitor.com/ on the left side colum under "The posts by Topic" click on Johns War
There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005. That conflict flares up and down for 10 years. In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States (which is the "other side" of the civil war from my perspective), China and Europe. The United States counter attacks. The US cities are destroyed along with the AFE (American Federal Empire)...thus we (in the country) won. The European Union and China were also destroyed. Russia is now our largest trading partner and the Capitol of the US was moved to Omaha Nebraska.

Funny that you say that. I was just talking to someone the other day who said that they heard that it was going to go into affect. I don't know his sources.

I am not sure of the age limit. I think it could be 18 - 26. I guess we will all find out in due time.
