ethernet card, i know more people that had problems with usb then ethernet, Current Fast Ethernet is capable of 100Mbps. USB can only manage about 10Mbps, well with the new usb 2.0 out it would be 360-to-480Mbit/s so im not sure, i would go with ethernet for now, but if you can get your hands on usb 2.0 i would go with usb 2.0, well if you can't get your hands on the new usb 2.0 port and client than an ethernet card would be more reliable than usb 1.1

A nice PCI NIC is more reliable, and on paper faster. USB can put out about 12 Mb/s, most new PCI NICs are 10/100 Mb/s, and good PCI NICs are hardware controlled, so they don't use up precious CPU cycles like software driven USB devices do. As to sheer speed, you won't notice much of a difference, even the fastest of cable connections don't get much past 1.5 - 2.5 Mb/s anyways, so a 10 Mb/s network card wouldn't be the bottleneck there.

Ethernet. I recently called to have DSL installed at a new residence... even the Customer service rep said "If they (the DSL installation people) try to push the USB modem on you, push back and hold out for the Ethernet modem, it is dramatically faster".
