I've just been trawling the Ultr@vnc web site and found an entry for the "Repeater" (http://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?t=34).
Ok, I read it, it went right over my head, is ther any chance of one of the more experienced (and very wonderfully helpful) chappies/chappesses to take a look at the article and translate it in 'Normal' English, you know, something a half-wit like me could understand.
Thanks a shed-load.

Let say you have a network with 3 computers and you want to be able to remotely control them through the Internet.
The usual way is to install a VNC Host on each computer and assign each host to a different port.
Example:
Computer 1 port 5810
Computer 2 port 5820
Computer 3 port 5830
You open these ports to the corresponded computer.
Through the Internet you use external IP: 5810 and you will get computer 1
External IP:5810 and you will get computer 1
External IP:5820 and you will get computer 2
External IP:5830 and you will get computer 3
You have to open 3 ports and remember the info concerning three computers.
The Repeater way. You install VNC Server and Repeater on computer 1 and you connect only to computer 1. From computer 1 through the repeater you can connect to computer 2 and 3.
I.e. in order to connect from remote you need only one port open and remember information concerning only one computer (the VNC server Repeater computer).

So why didn't the auther say that? Why do some people have to use gobledegook?
Anyway,
Next obvious question: how do I use repeater? Do I just start it up and prey or is there some way of configuring the repeater to do its stuff.
(thats three questions I know, I can't help being dim).
It's only because I like to learn, you know!!

I haven't used VNC in this mode, but with Terminal Services/Remote Desktop, and with PcAnywhere....
I'll remote into the computer that has the ports fowarded to it through the firewall, say the main server. I then, since I'm staring at it's desktop, initiate a remote connection to one of the LAN machines.
Basically you're just remoting into a host machine, then from that host machine...kicking off another remote session to another host machine. So on your desktop, you're looking at 3x machines!
