What's the average life of a slice of pizza at room temperature?

Just curious.
You buy a pizza....eat some...leave the rest in the box. You go back for seconds a few hours later. You leave the rest in the box. How long can it sit out at room temp before it spoils?

Constantly living in a hotel type environment I can tell you that if you bend a slice and it breaks in half, it's time to toss it in the trash. Otherwise, the pizza is fair game for munching.UOD wrote:Just curious.

Break with a snap as in crunch? Or more like shoe leather tear/snap? That could mean that it is just dry....I've eaten refrigerated pizza and it''s been hard as a damn rock. Nuke it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it's all good to go.

A crunch. My pizza never makes it to a snapping sound. lolUOD wrote:Break with a snap as in crunch? Or more like shoe leather tear/snap? When you bring nukers into it the level of pizza "standing time" greatly increases.

good question ... I was just pondering that myself ...
here is another one ... how long is it good in the fridge for? (making a red baron pizza tonight and I plan to saving the remnants ...) will it still be good tomorrow night?

Your storing left overs in the fridge? Using a nuker to reheat I assume? Heck, that's an easy one. One month.lance-tek wrote:good question ... I was just pondering that myself ...

Years...........if your single......about 15 minutes if your married..
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.
ok I see you guys keep stuff a lot longer than I would .. so I must ask .. how long do you keep bread for after you buy it, if it is sitting out not in the fridge or frozen but, in the wrapper ...
and secondly, Say that you have a 3/4 full gallon of milk in the fridge and the sell by date is today .. how long do you keep it yet?

For the bread I always keep it wrapped and refrigerated unless it's fresh bakery bought bread.lance-tek wrote:ok I see you guys keep stuff a lot longer than I would .. so I must ask .. how long do you keep bread for after you buy it, if it is sitting out not in the fridge or frozen but, in the wrapper ...

As for the milk, I give it the ol' nose test.

Approximately 10 minutes. If it's not eaten by then there's something wrong with it. The last time that happened was on a half pizza that was more chilli than anything else.
I am not a pizza keeper at all. Pizza is good hot and fresh, it is *oven* reheatable at a pinch after an hour or two if some silly person bough it while I wasn't here and that's that.

It all depends on what is on it, I wouldn't leave out a meatlover's pizza, but your basic pepperoni or veggie pizza will be fine for a few days in terms of bacterial growth. Jalapeno doesn't kill bacteria, just slows it down and limits what kind of will grow. As far as milk and bread go, the dates are a guide, I've had milk a week past its date still good. A cold fridge and not leaving the milk out can do wonders. An hour out is a day off the shelf life.
It came upon a midnight clear up my nose
You guys are wimps!
When it starts to grow mold, first harvest the penicillin culture, (I know that all of you guys have a bad case of the clap and would save some $$$ by growing your own! Tell me, who luvs ya!
I am always trying to look out for you guys!
) then eat the pizza. The older it is, the easier it is to digest as decomposition has already begun...
Come on guys, it's Bachelor 101...

Lance,
I feel a serious answer is in order!
I think the general guideline from some unknown to me health experts is that leftovers that are stored in the fridge are good for 2 days. Depending on what it is, I would go up to 3 or 4, like with potato salad maybe. But any type of meat, I always toss after 2 days. If yu open lunch meat, it is good for 1 week after you open it (the date on the package is for unopened meat) I would eat pizza the next morning if it has set over night, but that's pushing it!!!!

Wait, there is some type of limit on pizza?

Seriously though... In the fridge I let it go a few days, probably 4 days, after that it starts to look scary lol. If it is sitting out probably 6 hours is the most, if it is sitting out longer than that I usually pitch it. But if it was out exactly 6 hours, it is good to go and ready to go in the fride for an extended tour of duty
We usually don't have bread, but when we do I go for the visual mold and then feel it so see how it is. Milk, that sell by date scares the **** out of me. I usually give it the smell test, but that isn't always perfect. I usually use the milk the rest of that day for whatever I need it for and then pitch it just so I don't forget about it for the next day and get a bad present!
