Incase i'm mistaken
Incase i'm mistaken
I thought we were allowed to post for someone to check their PM's.
So many other people do it, but I can't?
How nice.
Incase you don't know Burke has said he does not get the PM Notification, therefore a nice thread informing him that he has a PM is neccassary.
It wouldn't get out of hand if you didn't edit my post in the first place. That kind of stuff is highly immature.
I would like a response please from the mods regarding this. And I would like the mod that keeps editting my posts to apologize.
If you cannot I will take it up with the higher management, if you so wish.

It was closed. I have no idea why.
My original post was made with the subject: Burke and the post said "I have given you a PM"
Apparently a mod editted the post so that it said: "I have given you a VD"
That is not the first time it has happened either. Whichever mod keeps editting my posts I would like it to stop.
The thread would have been a normal, regular thread informing another member they have a PM, but the mod had to ruin it by editting the post to change PM to VD.
All I want is for them to stop, and not do it again, and not close the thread, as it was a valid one.
I will remove my "ass hole" comment, if the mod agrees to not do it again, and open the thread.

post count?
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.

Not to push any buttons here, but I mean after a while of having to notify Burke that he has a PM. One would usually use other methods of communication. Email being one. Granted I don't know the whole situation but...
Respect it.

This is the easiest and fastest method since he is here a lot.
And I haven't exactly been spaming the board with hey burke you have pm threads.
I believe this is only the third i've ever made regarding that, and they have all been many days, in fact weeks, apart. I believe the last one was a whole week ago or so.
And as far as I know making a thread informing someone that they have a PM is still allowed.
If it is not, I think that is something we all need to know.

Alright, so I just want to get this straigt then.
Threads informing someone that they have a PM are NOT ALLOWED?
If this is so I expect every thread then that comes up closed by a mod.
Either make it a rule and enforce it, or don't.
I do not want to be singled out. It should apply to everyone.
Please clariffy.
In fact, I would like clarrification from the Admins on this, not the mods.

Check out disclaimer bullet point one if you want to get technical.
If I see them, PM them and take care of it, yes. I can't speak for everyone, but it's inconsiderate IMO.
You are making a mountain out of a molehill. If you want to pursue it further talk to Philip.
I would like clarrification from Philip on this, in fact I request it.
I would like Philip or Ken to announce this new rule and let us know what the new policy is about notifiying someone that they have a PM.
Please

John is right.
The fact that someone does not check PMs is not something that is intended for a public forum, it's a direct communicatin to one person rather than discussion topic. A private communication it does not fit very well in the forums... The fact that we allow it to some extent until it gets obtrusive (in our opinions) is not intended to single anyone out.
I hope this makes sense and answers your question.

It does, thank you.
I would argue that mine wasn't obtrusive until a mod editted my original post to make it say "I have given you a PM" to "I have given you a VD". Whichever mod editted my post ruined that thread right there. That is what I am most upset about. It was uncalled for, and the thread would have been a regular thread, lost in the ocean of threads, if that mod had not editted my original post. And this whole thing would have never have happened.
I would just like that mod to either apologize for it, or let me know he won't do it again, he may PM me if he wishes. It doesn't have to be public, I just don't want it to happen again.
If someone down the line posts a thread informing another of a PM I expect it to be closed as well, just like mine was.

here you say, you want clarification on if posting that someone has a PM is allowed...
then in above post when you find your in the wrong, you change your standpoint to your thread being edited.....
interesting

i mean after all... the title says general discussion... which i take to mean post topics or ask questions that most could participate in.....
anyway..... argue with the rule makers and typically you lose.
Read Above
You will find I am not arguing with the rule makers, I am simply upset at whichever mod editted my post in the first place and I wanted clarrification on this rule.
Because up till now I did not think it was wrong to post a thread informing someone they have a PM. And I don't think others knew it was wrong either.
Up until now it wa an accepted thing amongst the members.

Both
Upset at the mod editting my post, and also didn't know it was illegal to post such a thread, informing someone they have a PM.
Up until now I did not know it was illegal here on the forums, because no one else's threads had been closed.
Mine was the only one.

I've had to do it twice in my time here at SG and it's been incredibly important both times. Actually, they were 'your PM box is full' threads. They went unnoticed, except for the intended victim. Unless it was bumped up by the orig. poster...
oh well. I see the mountain/molehill from the flipside.
back to work.
i like the extra smiles that are available, good job!
